Priority of the Heart

Do you have trouble prioritizing? Do you feel that you are going in circles without a door to get out and move forward? The book of Proverbs offers you direct instruction from God how to stay on the path that will get you somewhere.

Proverbs chapter 4, verse 23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.”

That is very clear, isn’t it? First things first: guard your heart. Everything else you do is going to be affected by what is in your heart.

How do you guard your heart? Obviously, we can do this, or God would not have told us to do it.  Here are some tips:

1. Give your heart to Jesus, God the Son, for safe keeping. He died for you, to pay the price for your sin and give you eternal life, and He rose from being dead to prove that death is defeated. He is with God the Father now, praying for you. Who is better to keep your heart safe?

2. Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart, and don’t try to figure everything out. See Proverbs 3:5  When you are constantly analyzing your thoughts and emotions, and other people’s thoughts and emotions looking for what they mean, you will only get snarled up and confused.  Apart from the Lord, emotions reflect only circumstances, and circumstances change constantly. God never changes. His ways are consistent with everything He says.

3. Let your heart be open to new input from the Word of God and learn to hear His voice this way. When you read scripture, listen with all your heart to what the Lord is saying. Our minds can be closed to new insights because we have been taught certain things, but God wants us to hear Him with our spirits. The way to do this is to keep an open heart. Then ask God to apply what you hear to your mind and your daily life.

4. To guard your heart from evil influence, regularly put on the whole armor of God. See Ephesians 6:10-18

Now, you are walking in the wisdom of Proverbs 4:23 and guarding your heart as best you know how. Now rest in the truth that your Lord and your God takes full responsibility for every step you take today  as you have placed yourself in His care. Your priorities are in order!

Harvest of Righteousness

Galations 6:9 – And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Sometimes we can’t see the harvest.  We struggle and falter and wait and pray and seek God and work hard and willingly at what we know to do, and all the while, we are wondering if there will ever be a harvest we can see and feel. The life that we live by faith in Christ doesn’t make sense because the rewards all seem to be posted in heaven and where is the encouragement for here on earth?

The key to living in the Kingdom of God while walking among plain men is to seek and do what pleases God. There is a built in lie in man that we can’t please God and that to get ahead, we have to please men. Once this lie is broken, we can recognize the power of God in us. We can do all things according to the righteousness of Christ Jesus. Then we see a continuous harvest.

Here is a simple prayer to help you find the truth:

Father, I ask you to renew my mind to understand what your Spirit is saying to me today. I want to please God and yet walk fearlessly among men. Show me your way, for my desire is to walk in it. In Jesus’ Name. Thank you.

Forever Complete

When Jesus Christ was crucified, that is, nailed to a cross to die slowly and in great pain, His agony was increased to depths and degrees of which we have no understanding. All the powers of hell and sin were hurled at Him while He hung there. He took it upon Himself and endured all of it for our sake; every bit of it. Not one sliver of evil was left out. It all went on to Christ on the corss.

Then He cried out, “It is finished!” He knew that He had won the victory. The penalty for all that sin and evil was death. So He chose to die, and after the triumphant shout of victory, gave up His life. Christ knew, though, that His was the power to defeat even death and hell. He rose from the dead. Literally. His physical life came alive by the power of God and He lives today, seated at the right Hand of the Father in Heaven, ever making intercession for those of us who believe in Him. He will come back, and we will also experience this resurrection.

Now hear this: everything undertaken by the Lord is finished and complete. He has never left anything undone. It is finished from the foundation of the world. Recall the scripture: with God, all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26) He has even finished and answered our prayers before we make them.  All things are possible because we are complete in Him. (Colossians 2:10)

Everything we encounter on this earth is a battle. You can’t know what other people are thinkng, and relationships are always a tangle. However, we CAN KNOW the mind of Christ. When we receive Him as Lord and Savior, HE PUTS HIS MIND RIGHT IN US. (I Corinthians 2:16, Isaiah 40:13) Knowing Jesus’ very perfect thoughts, listening to His Spirit tell us what He is thinking, and reaching into His Word, the Bible for wisdom and knowledge, we have everything we need in His completeness and find our lives fulfilled in Him. Our prayers for others will be answered, because we know His will and His ways, and we ask in His Name.

And we are forever with the Lord. ALL things are possible. Amen and amen. (So be it!)

Keeping Safe

The life that we live in Christ can be filled with danger. The envy of unbelievers will move them to cause trouble. Satan loves to stir up their envy as much as he loves attacking our minds and bodies personally.

The one thing to remember is that we are safe in Jesus. He is greater than all the enemies put together. His love never fails toward us. His love never fails toward the people who hate us. We can love them with Christ’s love and pray for them to turn away from their sin and be saved. Then they will become our family and we will rejoice in their salvation now, and rejoice with them in heaven.

I would rather have a safe friend than a deadly enemy, wouldn’t you?

For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13

When confronted with an enemy, call upon the name of the Lord.  If He says run, then get moving. If He says speak, then repeat the words He gives you out loud. Whatever God says to do, believe that He is operating according to your best interest, and your enemy’s.

Now, before you expect attack and deliverance, please be prepared. Be surrendered to God so that you can hear Him speak and pray for discernment in all circumstances. Right now –

Lord, we give everything to you today. Our hearts and minds and bodies are Yours and we praise you for your loving watch care over us. Thank you for sending your angels to guard us and minister to us. Bless our enemies and those who persecute us. Give us wisdom and discernment in dealing with them. Whatever you say to do, Lord, we will do this day. You are our joy and our crown. We pray in Jesus’ Name.

God Will Tell You

Psalm 104! That is one place to read how Almighty God has planned and cares for his creation. Read in many, many places in the Bible how God plans to deal with evil and all of his plans for the Earth. You can beleive God because he is the Creator and the Supreme Authority. He never changes and his word never fails. Nothing and no one can interfere with what God wants to do.

Nothing exists without the explicit direction of the Living God.

He has revealed to us, his people, exactly what his plans are for the future regarding the heavens and the earth. He hates sin, so he sent Jesus Christ to be made sin for us and die as the ultimate sacrifice for us, for our sin. Then Christ rose from the dead to PROVE he has conquered sin and evil (for the wages of sin is death). He made complete and total access to himself for us and all we have to do is believe Christ.

Jesus Christ reveals the very heart and mind of the Father to each person who believes. We know he is in control of creation. We know how the earth will end – and it isn’t by the puny way of fuel emissions from men. It will end when God says so, and his power and majesty and glory will be seen by everyone. There will be no question who is in charge. There will be a new heavens and a new earth and the new Jerusalem, beloved city of God. Read it for yourself. Read the Bible. God has told us plainly what he is doing. There are far greater issues of life at stake for you than what you eat, what you wear, what you drive, what you see in the news.

Does God want you to be ignorant of where your particular life is going today? Absolutely not! It isn’t a mystery, and if it is to you, it shouldn’t be. You can trust Christ for everything, and the Holy Spirit will tell you where you must go and what to do. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked. If you are not paying attention to his will for your life, you are hardening your heart from him and wallowing in darkness. This bears repeating: God’s will for you IS NOT A MYSTERY. Everything God says is true, and he doesn’t leave any loopholes; that is, there is no way to sneak around what he says. He has a plan for your life, and it is the best plan. So why would anyone want to slip out of it, anyway? God is love.

Matthew 7:7-8 Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be open to you. For everyone who asks, receives, and everyone who seeks, finds, and to everyone who knocks, the door is opened.

May the Lord touch you today for understanding of his glorious truth.

Keep It New

Every person is given the choice of how to live. Choosing how to live has nothing to do with circumstances.

Let’s use a very common example from the culture we live in. Millions of young people do not have the security or stability of a home with two parents and Jesus Christ as the real Head of household. Thousands upon thousands of these kids have to flip-flop between two homes. Statistics show that moving is the number two stresser; death being the first. If a child or teen has to move every few days or every other week, or however it works, that child is in a perpetual state of stress. Think about this – if you are an adult reading this, how do you cope with long-term, driving stress? Do you escape? Eat, drink and be merry? Hibernate? Become the dominating person in your situation so you can try to control it? Probably, yes and most likely, you learn to play both sides of your ordeal so that YOU gain the most, either way the mop is flopping at any time. And that is exactly what the young people will do.

However, if you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you surrender yourself and your needs to him, and he gives you everything you need to walk safely through your situation and help others to do likewise. He gives you wisdom and holiness and right behavior so that you do not connive and hurt yourself and others. He takes you step by step through treacherous situations, into a safe place. Your actions are rooted and grounded in love and not in getting what you can get. Love is better than stuff or power, and you know it.

If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you know that when you leave your mortal body, you will be present with him. How you choose to live now bears evidence of how you will be when you reach that moment of meeting your Savior in Person. If you keep it new, that is, displaying your new life in Christ, created in his likeness, righteous, holy, and true, then you will be satisfied with your life.

How do you keep it new? Here is that word again: surrender. Only the power of God can keep you new.

Today, stop playing the system of the world. Give up your old nature, which is filled with lust and deception, and is rotten through and through. See Ephesians 4:20-32. Give it up by turning yourself completely over to Christ. He will take care of you.

And if you are a person, young or old, with no real stability in your life except what you strive to make for yourself, I plead with you to take it to the Lord in prayer. Tell him you are sorry for the way you live. Ask him to forgive you, because he is the only one with the power to take away your sin. He died on the cross as the only sacrifice for sin that God the Father will accept. Receive Christ for yourself. Then, as Christ was raised from the dead, you too shall be raised from your old life into new. Your guidebook for new life is the Holy Bible, and your mentor is the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of God.

Now you have chosen the new life – and by keeping your eyes on Jesus Christ, you will find that every day is new. Pffft – goodbye, stress; goodbye nasty choices.

Watch and Pray

Sometimes you are in a situation where the pressure against you never lets up. You are tyrannized, lied to, oppressed, lied ABOUT and other people are constantly being tricked into acting against you.

You realize what is happening, but your oppressors are so sneaky that you can’t expose them. You can say what they are doing, but no one will believe you. Ever felt like that? If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, then you are simply experiencing what he experienced! It is the age-old spiritual battle. Good versus evil. God is Good, and the enemy is always satan and his minions, and the people they control.

Run to Jesus for safety; he is the most fortified tower in the field of battle. No one can break through. Ever. His pennant will always fly high above the tower. From your vantage point in Christ, you can survey the whole battlefield and see exactly what is going on. As your supreme commander, Jesus will teach you exactly how each combat is won, and he will lead you through every trial. Sometimes your job will be simply to observe the field and pray for those upon it. God will tell you when this is your most effective way of fighting evil.

Jumping in, shouting, is usually the least effective fight. Draw near to the Lord, and he draws near to you, and he leads, and you follow. Learn first, and pray, and then receive your commission for Christ’s army. His flying pennant is yours when he is your citadel.
