Watch and Pray

Sometimes you are in a situation where the pressure against you never lets up. You are tyrannized, lied to, oppressed, lied ABOUT and other people are constantly being tricked into acting against you.

You realize what is happening, but your oppressors are so sneaky that you can’t expose them. You can say what they are doing, but no one will believe you. Ever felt like that? If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, then you are simply experiencing what he experienced! It is the age-old spiritual battle. Good versus evil. God is Good, and the enemy is always satan and his minions, and the people they control.

Run to Jesus for safety; he is the most fortified tower in the field of battle. No one can break through. Ever. His pennant will always fly high above the tower. From your vantage point in Christ, you can survey the whole battlefield and see exactly what is going on. As your supreme commander, Jesus will teach you exactly how each combat is won, and he will lead you through every trial. Sometimes your job will be simply to observe the field and pray for those upon it. God will tell you when this is your most effective way of fighting evil.

Jumping in, shouting, is usually the least effective fight. Draw near to the Lord, and he draws near to you, and he leads, and you follow. Learn first, and pray, and then receive your commission for Christ’s army. His flying pennant is yours when he is your citadel.

Fighting is really the less affective way to think about Gods word. Yes you can say that there is a sense in which it is a spiritual war. But we, in our pride, seem to forget that the “war” has already been won by Christ on the cross. All we need to do is, as you say, follow and obey. But only God has the power to win souls. If we win souls, it is only because God created the right circumstance for that to occur. Im not saying we don’t have some affect, but we are only as a key being used to open the doors of mens hearts. And not all those hearts are designed to be thus opened. And God does not even always use us keys. Sometimes He acts directly on an individual. Always remember, God has designed this battle from start to finish.

  2. I have read your comment about my blog post, Watch and Pray.” Please read the post again and keep the remarks about warfare in context with the main point of the post which is that Christ is the ONLY bastion, citadel, tower, refuge possible in dealing with evil.

Regarding your comments, the Apostle Paul stated that he kept the faith and fought the good fight. Was he wrong? Should he have been a fatalist, only allowing that everything is orchestrated by God to the nth degree and man is just a puppet? No, because God is not like that. You must understand that prayer changes things – we are not helpless. Paul, under inspiration of the Holy Spirit, also instructed us to put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6) and to stand firm. A person who doesn’t fight has no need for armor. There is a definite spiritual war going on on this earth. Remember that Lucifer and a third of the host of heaven were cast to earth and they have not yet been remanded to their eternal destination.

Christ’s victory was not at the cross – it was at his resurrection where he defeated death and hades.. His followers shall also be resurrected, but while on this earth, there is trouble everywhere.

You sound like a younger person, who has not yet not studied God’s Word daily or you would also remember these things. Please be in the scriptures more and grow your understanding of who God is. Ask God to reveal his truths to you as you read. You are not required to try to understand it all by yourself. Beware of church doctrines which limit your understanding. Remember: Jesus stated clearly that he was giving us his Holy Spirit to teach us all things. Listen to him. Yes, we are commanded to win souls, but first we have to walk the walk. We have to know this person Jesus Christ and abide in his loving refuge before we are ready to withstand the opposition that is out there. The key to being ready is the same as the key to knowing God – know His Word, listen to him, pray, and grow every day to be more like Christ.

I pray for God to reveal more of himself to you this very day.
